日本政府観光局（ＪＮＴＯ）は28日、2008年1―6月に日本を訪れた外国人が前年同期比10.0％増の433万7400人（推計値）となり、上半期として初めて400万人台を記録したと発表した。経済成長などを背景に、韓国や台湾、中国からの観光客が増加した。
国・地域別にみると、韓国が8.1％増の132万2400人で最も多かった。台湾は6.9％増の72万2700人、中国は14.9％増の 49万9200人だった。スキー客が増えた豪州からは19.4％増の12万5900人、日本アニメの人気が高まっているフランスからは9.8％増の7万 1600人が訪れた。
同時に発表した6月の推計値は前年同月比7.9％増の68万1900人だった。●●コメント●●

Today, I went to the beachfront with my children. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said "You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear." She placed the shell to her ear and screamed.
